EDITORIAL GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS

(in accordance with the requirements of the ANS Publishing House)

1. Submission of the article

After preparing an article with a length up to 12 pages, the complete set of documents should be sent to security.conference@ans-ns.edu.pl, including:

the paper prepared in accordance with the specified parameters (Section II) in electronic form
(by email)

2. Editorial requirements

1) General guidelines

a) margins: 2.5 cm on all sides
b) font type and size:
– main text: Times New Roman, 13 pt
– abstracts, keywords, and bibliography: Times New Roman, 12 pt

c) text alignment: justified
d) line spacing: single (also applies to tables, figures, and footnotes)
e) paragraph indentation: 1.25 cm
f) consistent and continuous page numbering (pagination) – centered at the bottom of each page
g) hyphenation disabled

2) Detailed guidelines (in accordance with the APA editorial standard)

a) Citations

References to works by other authors

  • Single-author works:
    ✓ if the author’s name and year do not appear in the text, include both in parentheses
    ✓ if the author’s name appears in the text, include only the year in parentheses
  • Works by multiple authors:
    ✓ for 2–5 authors, list all authors the first time; in subsequent citations use only the first author’s surname followed by “et al.” and the year
    ✓ for 6 or more authors, provide only the first author’s surname followed by “et al.” and the year
    ✓ if different authors have the same surname, include their initials in each citation
    ✓ when citing two or more works within the same parentheses, arrange them alphabetically by the first author’s surname and separate them with semicolons
    ✓ two or more works by the same author should be arranged chronologically; the author’s surname should be given only once, followed by the years separated by commas
    ✓ if several works by the same author(s) were published in the same year, add letters a, b, c, etc., after the year (without a space)
  • Internet sources:
    ✓ cite in the main text by referring to the website and the access date in parentheses

Quoting text

  • for verbatim quotations, provide the author’s surname, year of publication, and page number
    • quotations shorter than 40 words should be placed in quotation marks
    • the citation should immediately follow the quotation
    • quotations of 40 words or more should be formatted as a block quotation:
    – separated from the main text
    – indented from both left and right margins
    – without quotation marks
    – if the source is not mentioned in the introductory sentence, the citation should be placed at the end of the quotation

b) Footnotes

  • footnotes should be used only to supplement the main text
    • all footnotes should be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals
    • numbers should appear as superscripts in the text
    • each footnote should be placed at the bottom of the page to which it refers

Format:

  • Book:
    Book title (page number/s), A. Author, B. Author, year, Place of publication: Publisher
  • Journal article:
    “Article title,” A. Author, B. Author, year, Journal Title, volume number, page number/s
  • Publications by institutions:
    Title, institution name, year. Retrieved from: www (access date)
  • Internet sources:
    www (access date)

c) Tables and figures

Number and title

Table

  • the number and title are placed above the table
    • the number in regular font
    • the title in italics
    • no period after the title
    • font: Times New Roman, 12 pt

Example:

Statistical data for the years 2014–2017

The source note should be placed below the table.

Figure

  • the caption should be placed directly below the figure
    • the figure number in italics
    • the title in regular font on the same line
    • a period after the title
    • font: Times New Roman, 12 pt

Example:

The source note should be placed below the title.

Notes below tables and figures

  • notes should be listed below the table or figure
    • each note begins on a new line and ends with a period
    • the format is the same as for footnotes
    • font: Times New Roman, 11 pt

d) Bibliography

  • placed at the end of the article/book
    • arranged alphabetically by surname
    • not numbered

Format:

  • Book:
    Surname, X., Surname, X.Y. (year). Title of the book. Place of publication: Publisher.
  • Edited book:
    Surname, X. (Ed.). (year). Title of the book. Place of publication: Publisher.
  • Chapter in an edited volume:
